Southern Morocco & Kasbahs – 5 days
|Day 1 – Marrakech – Ouarzazate |
Your driver will collect you from your Marrakech Riad/Hotel and begin the journey to Ouarzazate – The Door of the Desert. We will drive the exhilarating Tizi n Tichka Pass enjoying breath- taking scenery and photograph opportunities on the way.
Just off the pass the road leads us to the bizarre Kasbah Telouet which we will stop to visit. This is a stunning though incomplete Kasbah with a rich history and much to see inside. Most Moroccan Kasbahs were used for various reasons but were not actually occupied, but Kasbah Telouet housed the Glaoui family.
From here we will drive on to Ait Ben Haddou, with its striking Southern Moroccan architecture. The areas include a Mosque, caravanserai and Muslim and Jewish centuries amongst others.
Overnight in Ouarzazate.
|Day 2 – Ouarzazate – Zagora |
Today we will drive the Anti Atlas Mountains and visit Agdz (means rest for caravans) The Draa Oasis starts here and we will visit the huge and quite unbelievable Tamnogelt Kasbah.
Then continuing on to Zagora, the capital of Draa valley which is the longest river in morocco at 1200 km. Zagora is an authentic Berber Market Town and is dominated by a mountain from which it takes it name and from which you can see the sand dunes beyond.
At the top of the mountain are the remains of an Almoravid fortress Overnight in Zagora.
|Day 3 – Zagora – Merzouga |
There are two options how to continue this trip and you can choose your preference : One leg leads us to Tazzarine over unpaved roads and then continues to Merzouga on tarmac. The other route is an unpaved road only. It is a direct connection to Merzouga and a part of the world famous “Dakar Rally”.
The landscape between Zagora and Merzouga is dominated by rock desert in countless variations.
The tiny oasis of Merzouga is located on the boundaries of Erg Chebbi, the greatest dune range in Morocco. You will spend the night in a Kasbah hotel in the dunes.
|Day 4 – Merzouga – Dades Valley |
After watching the sunrise we will leave Merzouga behind and set off to Dades via Rissani. Rissani is known for its old traditional Market and the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Chérif.
We will visit a fossil factory where beautiful articles are created out of marble as well as Erfoud for its fossils. Next, we continue to Tinghir via Tinjdad and enjoy seeing Berber villages beside the road.
We will also travel to the Todra Gorges and Oasis which at 300m is the highest oasis, 3rd biggest in Morocco. Today tour ends with our arrival in Dades Gorge

|Day 5 – Dades Valley – Marrakech |
Today our journey takes us through some fascinating scenery from the Valley of The Roses, Skoura Palmery and Ait Ben Haddou. The fortified city of Ait Ben Haddou is a Unesco World Heritage site.
Situated on the old caravan route from the Sahara to Marrakech, we will have time to walk and explore before the High Atlas crossing via the infamous Tizi-n-Tichka pass to Marrakech.
The tour ends in Marrakech but the timing of today will depend on your onward plans and we can be completely flexible to help you make the most of every last minute of your holiday.
