Fez to Marrakech – 4 days – Including Desert Camp
|Day 1 – Fez – Middelt – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga |
We will collect you from your riad after breakfast and set out across the mountains of the Middle Atlas. The diverse scenery will provide plenty of interest during the journey and we will stop to visit Ifrane, a ski resort reminiscent of Switzerland and a complete surprise in Africa. In the cedar forests of Azrou we will hopefully we will get to see the wild Barbary Apes, a species of macaque.
Then we will reach Midelt a welcome spot for lunch before beginning the descent into the picturesque Ziz Valley oasis.
Soon there will be another change in scenery as we look out for the first sand dunes of Merzouga from the road. There will be time for tea and to prepare for the desert camp.You will be introduced to your camel which you will ride into the dunes to watch the sunset.
The camel is still an integral part of desert life as it has been over the centuries, having been used to ship precious cargoes from sub-Saharan Africa to the coastal trading ports. You will be led by Berber guides and will be mesmerized by the silence and majesty of the desert.

|Day 2 – Erg Chebbi Tour – Merzouga |
Wake up to the Sharan sunrise and enjoy a desert breakfast before today’s adventure begins. The tour will continue to the Erg Chebbi Dunes where you will discover the beauty of the natural lifestyle of the desert nomads. We will see and meet local people who are still living in tents and enjoy their hospitality as we share tea with them.
There will also be the opportunity to visit Khamlia, the Gnaoua village. They say the desert is full of surprises and this is surely one of them. The Gnaoua are Sub Saharan slave descendants who brought their music with them. Three instruments and chanting create the rhythmic sound designed to provoke a trance like state.
From there we return to our hotel for another chance to enjoy a camel ride.
Overnight in Merzouga
|Day 3 – Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra & Dades Gorge |
After seeing the sunrise, we will leave Merzouga heading to Dades via Rissani which is known for its old traditional Market and the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Chérif. Here we will visit a fossil factory where beautiful articles are created out of marble as well as Erfoud for its fossils.
Next, we continue to Tinghir via Tinjdad and enjoy seeing Berber villages beside the road. We will also travel to the Todra Gorges and Oasis which at 300m is the highest oasis, 3rd biggest in Morocco.
Then onto Dades Valley with its wild landscape and rock formations. Overnight in Dades Gorge
|Day 4 – Dades – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Telouet – Marrkech |
After breakfast our journey will continue to Ouarzazate. On the way we will visit the Berber villages and shops. We will also have the opportunity to visit the spectacular Taourirt Kasbah and museum or alternatively the Hollywood of Africa and UNESCO Site of Ait Benhaddou, famous for the filming of Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and Indiana Jones amongst many others.
There will be time for a walk to explore the traditional Moroccan architecture of the Kasbahs. We will take the highest mountain pass in North Africa, the Tizi n Ticka pass reaching altitudes of 2260 meters above sea level as we make our way to Marrakech.
